Assistant Professor
Course Coordinator of HUDT2206
BA PKU, PhD PKU

Prof. Yuqi Chen works at the intersection of Quantitative History, Digital Humanities, and AI for the Humanities. Her research integrates artificial intelligence and computational methods with humanities inquiry, aiming to uncover new insights through interdisciplinary approaches.
Her research interests currently focus on three main areas:
Quantitative History and Archaeology — Utilizing quantitative methods, such as spatial analysis, time series analysis, and social network analysis, and developing open-source computational tools to advance archaeological and historical research, particularly in the study of Early China.
AI for the Humanities — Leveraging artificial intelligence to digitize and interpret low-resource historical materials, including oracle bones, bronze inscriptions, and premodern Chinese texts.
Historical Psychology — Applying AI-driven methods to investigate human sentiment and trace the long-term evolution of cultural psychology.
In addition, she develops innovative digital humanities practices that integrate these research directions, including AI-driven historical simulations and game-based interactive systems for modeling complex social and cultural processes.
She is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts, The University of Hong Kong. She received her B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Peking University and was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University.
